Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain, fatigue and cognitive difficulties.  It presents with autonomic and inflammatory symptoms, with strong affiliations with myalgic encephalomyelitis /chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS).   FMS, along with Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) is also a common presentation of  “Long COVID.”  Our findings of how autonomic instability, fatigue, and inflammatory responses can be provoked by stress, infection (especially COVID-19), injury, or mechanical and dietary factors has given us a basis for working with FMS, POTS and its comorbidities.

There seems little doubt that the evolving research into COVID-19 will ultimately resolve the perplexing complex problems underlying Fibromyalgia (FMS) pathogenesis, as well as giving credence to those multitudes of people suffering from FMS, whose life has been miserable, and largely ignored by doctors who have treated most as having a psychiatric problem.
